A great childhood is the foundation of happy families, healthy communities and national wellbeing. We work on everything a good childhood needs — and choose each one by a single measure: the most lasting value, for the most children, per pound, guided by evidence and AI-driven analysis.
We weigh every postcode area in Great Britain by how well childhood is served — then concentrate first where the need runs deepest. The shading shows where our attention goes, and in what order.
Baseline shading reflects published child-deprivation data across Great Britain, adjusted for the infrastructure each area already has, and will sharpen as local people tell us what they see on the ground.
Map your own area ↗Some of it, eventually. But public money is finite, it moves slowly, and it rarely reaches the smallest places first. A childhood happens once, and it can’t wait for a budget cycle.
So we act now, where the need is sharpest, and we prove what works. Every project becomes the evidence a council or government needs to go bigger:
The biggest public programmes often start with someone proving them first. We aim to be that starting point.
Two directions, one loop. We read the whole country from the top down to decide where to act, then deliver from the bottom up where the impact is highest — measuring as we go, and feeding what we learn back into the next decision.
It starts with the data. AI analysis of need and opportunity across every area sets the plan: where childhood is most lacking, and where a pound travels furthest.
Then we move on the ground — delivering, advising and co-funding with councils, schools and local partners — delivering first where the score is highest, and adapting to each place.
Sometimes the biggest impact is a project of our own. Sometimes it’s changing the rules, or backing work already underway. We work three ways, and the score picks the one that fits a place.
The work we design, fund and deliver ourselves — from spaces to clubs, programmes and everyday support.
We turn our evidence into policy — briefing councils and government on what actually works for childhood, so good practice spreads far further than we could ever reach alone.
Where strong work already exists, we back it — co-funding external projects that pass our value tests, right up to county- and country-scale programmes.
A good childhood has many sides — safe places to play, good health, a fair chance to learn, streets that feel safe, and people around them. We work across all of them, guided by the same score, wherever the need runs deepest.
Playgrounds, pocket parks and calmer streets — the everyday places children grow up in.
Getting children moving and keeping them well — sport clubs, first-aid skills and health awareness.
A fairer start at learning — libraries, reading corners and homework support where it’s scarce.
Children who feel safe on their own streets — safe routes, watch schemes and crime awareness.
Children who feel part of something — play days, clubs and community events.
Help when families are stretched — warm, safe spaces and the basics no child should go without.
Three principles govern every decision we make, and together they push each pound further than it would otherwise go.
A project only scores once it changes a child’s world — value first, then reach and how long it lasts. So the same money buys deeper, longer-lasting change for more children.
Our need-and-opportunity analysis runs on AI over hard public data at national scale — one objective standard, applied to every area alike.
Every project rests on published research, our own tested standards, and local adaptation — so an approach that works elsewhere is shown to work here before we act.
Every project earns a single number: how much it changes a child’s world (value), times how many children it reaches and for how long (coverage), divided by cost. That figure — child-impact per pound — decides everything we take on.
How acute the gap is — how poorly childhood is served in that place. Meeting deeper need creates more value per child.
How much it changes a child’s day, rated 1–5 — from a glance in passing to a place that feels like theirs.
How many children it touches over a year — from footfall, school rolls and catchment.
How long the value lasts — a permanent change is worth far more than something seasonal or one-off.
Value and coverage decide the ranking. But nothing reaches the formula until a project clears both of these, and each one is pass or fail.
Has the approach been proven to work, here or anywhere in the world? Without credible evidence, a project doesn’t get built.
Does it reach the children with least — weighted by deprivation and missing provision? This is how we level up: the most neglected places come first.
Need carries real weight in the score, and Equity is a hard gate — together they put the most neglected places first in line. Tell us about yours and it goes on the map.
Map your areaReal things we design, build and run — playgrounds and parks, sport clubs and first aid, libraries and safe routes. Each one is here because the score ranked it worth doing.
Playgrounds designed for the whole range, 0–16, and the adults with them.
Pocket street spaces where all ages can meet, rest, play and talk.
Dull school routes turned into daily adventure paths.
Playable edges, pavements and fences on ordinary streets.
Dead corners reclaimed as green, sensory spaces for children.
Safer, calmer, lower-traffic arrival zones at the school gate.
Recurring city-wide play-street festivals that bring streets to life.
Long-term inter-school sport leagues with kit and coaching.
Public children's art and murals across a neighbourhood, each season.
The research backbone — what works, where, and why, kept up to date.
Warm, book-filled reading nooks in schools and libraries where literacy needs run highest.
Regular closed-street play sessions that bring a neighbourhood’s children out together.
Free weekend football, athletics and multi-sport sessions in areas with nowhere else to play.
Practical first-aid and basic health skills taught to children and the adults around them.
Safer crossings, lighting and calmed traffic on the routes children walk every day.
Neighbourhood watch and crime-awareness schemes built around keeping local children safe.
Small, well-stocked libraries and reading spaces in neighbourhoods that have lost theirs.
Warm, safe places with food, activities and essentials for children when families are stretched.

Get the full catalogue ↗Support here comes with measured impact in real places, your name on the work itself, and a say in where it lands.
Your gift is pooled with others and spread across many projects at once, wherever need is highest — reaching children in many places at the same time, rather than sitting in a single project.
A clear confirmation of exactly what your money helped make happen, project by project.
Your name on a thank-you plate at the project itself, wherever the site allows.
Your name listed on our website — on the golden or platinum donors list, by tier.
A share of the coverage and stories the projects you fund go on to generate.
A before-and-after score on every project your money touched — your own impact, measured.
Three ways for a business to back the work — monthly membership, a founding seat, or a bespoke partnership — each funding the same scored projects. Pick the one that fits.
The first hundred organisations to back Raising Britain shape it from the inside — a permanent seat on the founders' board, your name carried on the work for as long as it runs, and a place in the story every supporter after you will read. Once the hundred are in, founding membership closes for good.
Giving as an individual? Make a one-off or regular gift, with Gift Aid — every pound still goes through the same scored projects.
Your money is fully accounted for. You get a private account to follow every pound you give — and for every project we fund, we show the score it earned, what it truly cost, and the result on the ground.
The moment your first project is funded, a private account opens for you. Sign in whenever you like — follow your contribution project by project, pull down the letters you need, and keep every membership document in one place.
The exact number, every factor, before a single pound moves.
Line-by-line spend — materials, install and maintenance, every figure itemised.
The place as it was, and the place as it is. Same angle, same crop.
We return months later and count: did children use it?
Three things. We deliver real improvements ourselves — from playgrounds and safe streets to sport clubs, libraries and first-aid skills. We advise councils and government on what works, so good practice spreads further than we could reach alone. And we co-fund strong projects run by others. Every one is chosen by a single score of value and coverage per pound, then measured once it’s running.
A great childhood is the foundation of a stronger country. Children who grow up safe, active and supported build steadier families, more connected communities, and a healthier, more productive Britain. We work to give every child that start, beginning where it is missing most.
Every project earns a single number — value × coverage ÷ cost — and must clear two gates before anything is built: credible evidence that the approach works, and equity, weighted by deprivation and missing provision. The most neglected places come first.
Every pound is pooled and spread across many projects at once, wherever need is highest, rather than sitting in a single project. You receive a scored, before-and-after report on the work your support helped fund.
Safeguarding comes first on every project. Everyone working with or near children is vetted and DBS-checked, our sites are designed and supervised to be safe, and we follow clear safeguarding policies with a named lead and a simple route to raise concerns. Anything raised is acted on straight away.
Yes. We run a separate maintenance fund so the places we build keep working for years after they open. A share of every project’s budget is set aside for upkeep, and we come back to check and repair, so a space stays as good as the day it opened.
We turn our evidence into policy, briefing councils and government on what works for childhood so good practice spreads far further than we could reach alone. Examples of our policies include:
Where a strong project already exists and clears our value and evidence tests, we put money in alongside its existing backers rather than starting our own. Matched funding stretches each pound further: a project part-funded elsewhere costs us less per child, so it scores higher and reaches further. We only co-fund work we can measure, and the same before-and-after scoring applies.
Yes. Every project’s score, itemised cost and measured result are shared in full, including projects that come in under their score.
Both. A business can back the work through membership — a recurring commitment, a founding seat, or a bespoke partnership — with its name carried on the projects it funds. An individual can give a one-off or regular gift, with Gift Aid. Either way, the money goes through the same scored projects.
Back the projects the evidence chooses — proven, in public, in your name.
